What Is the Unc Test?
The unc test is the internet's way of answering one question: has your aura officially aged out? “Unc” — short for uncle — is the slang label for anyone acting a little too comfortable, a little too nostalgic, a little too much like they have a favorite gas station. The test turns that accusation into a score you can argue about.
This version is the classic checklist format: 21 yes-or-no confessions across slang, music, fashion, texting habits, and social energy. Every YES adds one point to your Unc Score. Hit double digits and the verdict is out of your hands.
How the Unc Test Works
1. Confess
Answer 21 yes-or-no questions. Be honest — the test can smell denial, and denial is a very unc trait.
2. Get Scored
Every YES is one unc point. 10 or more and you are officially unc — the same rule the viral TikTok test uses.
3. Get Certified
Receive your verdict certificate, screenshot it, and send it to the most unc person you know. That's the law.
What's Your Unc Status? The Age Chart
Unc status is not really about age — it's about behavior. But the internet still argues about the number, so here is the unofficial unc age chart, built from the actual debate raging in polls and comment sections:
| Age | Unc Status Verdict | The Vote |
|---|---|---|
| 18–19 | Youth coded. If you already feel ancient, that's a you problem. | 7% of the vote |
| 20–24 | The border zone. One FitnessGram flashback from crossing over. | 12% of the vote |
| 25–29 | The internet's favorite answer. Welcome to unc status probation. | 31% of the vote |
| 30+ | Presumed unc until proven otherwise. The test is your appeal. | 50% of the vote |
The most quoted rule: the official unc age starts at 25 — according to people in high school and college, who also believe anyone over 21 is ancient. If that offends you, the appeal process is the test above.
What Does Unc Mean?
Before it was internet slang, “unc” came from African American Vernacular English (AAVE), where it's short for uncle — a warm, respectful nickname for an older man in the family or the neighborhood. That original meaning is affection, not insult.
TikTok then borrowed it as the label for anyone radiating uncle energy: grunting when they sit down, explaining why old music is better, wearing New Balances unironically. Celebrities now call themselves unc the moment they turn 30. It became a whole status system — and a reason to build a test.
So if someone calls you unc: it's (probably) love. Take the test, get your score, and wear the verdict with the dignity of a man who owns a good grill.
The Viral TikTok Unc Test
The unc test blew up on TikTok thanks to Mikey Angelo's video — millions of views of people counting their YES answers in real time. Our test uses the same scoring rule his version made famous, so your score here is valid currency in his comment section. Watch the original below, then compare verdicts.

Unc Test FAQ
What does unc mean in slang?
Unc is short for 'uncle'. On TikTok and in Gen Z slang, it describes someone who is getting old, acting old, or falling out of touch with current trends — the modern cousin of 'old head'. It can be a roast, a compliment, or both at once.
What age is unc status?
There is no official age — that's why the internet keeps fighting about it. High schoolers say 21+. College kids say 25. A viral X poll put the most common answers at 25-29 (31%) and 30+ (50%). This test exists because behavior, not birthdays, decides your verdict — the questions measure how you act, not how many candles were on the cake.
Is being called unc disrespectful?
Usually not. It is mostly playful teasing between friends — a softer 'OK boomer'. In its original use it is even a term of respect. If your knees crack when you stand up, take the L with grace — arguing with teenagers about it only proves their point.
Is unc slang racist?
No. Unc comes from African American Vernacular English (AAVE), where it has long been a term of endearment and respect for older men in the community. The internet borrowed it as age-teasing slang. Knowing where it comes from matters — use it with love, not mockery.
Can a girl be an unc?
The behavior is universal, and plenty of people score 'certified unc' regardless of gender. The traditional female counterpart is 'auntie', which carries the same mix of respect and gentle roasting. This test does not discriminate: everyone's back hurts eventually, and the group chat shows no mercy either way.
What comes after unc status?
On this test the ladder goes: Youth Coded → Almost Unc → Certified Unc → Final Boss Unc. Final Boss is beyond saving — you own a favorite chair, a favorite gas station, and at least one opinion about lawn care.
How many questions is the unc test?
21 yes-or-no questions, about 60 seconds total. Answer YES to 10 or more and you are officially unc — the same scoring rule the viral TikTok version made famous.
Is the unc test scientifically accurate?
Absolutely not. This is not science, it's vibes. No psychologists were consulted and none would agree to be. Your certificate is legally binding only in the group chat.
Ready for Your Verdict?
60 seconds. 21 questions. One legally binding unc certificate.
